DepEd Assistant Regional Director Corazon Brown said she is glad to hear the President mentioning in his state of the nation address (SONA) yesterday that his administration would meet the lacking classrooms, backlog on classroom chairs and textbooks.
“We at the DepEd are glad and keep our fingers crossed that all will be realized,” she said.
Brown further said the need of Western Visayas is not as much as that of the National Capital Region and of other regions.
She said that the need of the region for school buildings and classroom chairs is somehow met by the annual allocation given them by the DepEd central office.
“Right now, there are deliveries of the needed chairs,” the DepEd official contended. She said that the DepEd divisions actually requested these chairs about two years ago already, but that these are delivered only now because of the long process of procurement.
Brown said that DepEd also supposedly changes textbooks every five years, but there are times when it does not happen perhaps because there is not enough book titles presented to the central office to choose from.
“Hopefully, the one is to one ratio of textbook could be realized,” she said.
