Governor Amado Espino Jr. thanked God for the many blessings He showered upon the province of Pangasinan this year.
Espino told newsmen during a special edition of the Media in Action forum of the Pangasinan Press Club (PPC) that 2011 “gave us studded and memorable events that made us stronger, more resilient and resolute in all things expected of us by our fellow province mates”.
Responding to a question raised by PPC president Atty. Gonzalo Duque, Espino said he considers his health care, the discipline and work ethics he instilled on provincial officials and employees, and his programs on environment and the youth as his more meaningful accomplishments for the year.
All these projects positioned Pangasinan as the fifth leading province in the country in terms of good governance based on the assessment made by the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) during the third quarter of the year.
Gov. Espino and Vice Governor Jose Ferdinand Calimlim said they and the other officials and employees of the provincial government will not rest till Pangasinan becomes No. 1 all over the country within their term.
In March this year, Pangasinan reaped seven top awards in local governance which were the significant reasons why the province was adjudged as one of the top five provinces in the entire country.
The governor said Pangasinan started reaping its many good blessings when Pangasinan II cut the 11-year-old supremacy of the province of Ilocos Norte in the Region 1 Athletic Association Meet, finally bringing back the province’s old dominance in sports in the whole region.
Espino said it was also in the first quarter of 2011 that the province launched a cultural show “Asin ed Asinan”, a project of all the provincial officials and employees combined seeking to revive the province’s native culture and arts.
The province also set up the Overseas Filipino Workers (OFW) Desk, which was a very timely undertaking because at that time, Libya and Egypt were in political crisis and workers from Pangasinan badly needed help.
