Camilo Rufo Slain

A barangay councilman was shot dead by an unidentified assailant in Barangay Dorongan Sawat, Mangatarem Monday night, according to the police.

The fatality was identified as Camilo Rufo, 41, incumbent barangay councilman of Dorongan Sawat, who suffered multiple gunshot wounds in different parts of the body and pronounced dead on arrival at the Velasquez Hospital in Mangatarem.

Recovered from the crime scene are 12 cartridges of M-16 rifle fired by the lone gunman who set an ambush position along the road while the councilman was going home from a drinking spree.

The victim was on board his motorcycle when the gunman, using an assault rifle, opened fire.

Investigation showed that Rufo was shot several times about 100 meters away from the house of one Alvin Gelia in the same barangay where he came from.
