The power plant inside the premises of the Capiz Electric Cooperative Inc. (CAPELCO) that still continues to emit oil leak has been ordered closed temporarily.
Mayor Katherine “Kit” Belo issued a Cease and Desist Order (CDO) against Enervantage, Inc. Thursday (Feb. 16) after she found out that it still has oil spill from its generators.
In a one page CDO, Belo said the closure is temporary in nature until such time the oil spill is finally plugged.
“This is without prejudice to the final recommendation of the Environmental Management Bureau, Region 4, which will be discussed in the regional meeting with all concerned agencies on Monday (Feb. 20) in the office of EMB,” Belo said.
The lady mayor also said the decision is for the sake of her constituents and the people of Capiz.
Belo said that this is the 2nd time where the local government unit ordered to close the said power plant. The first one was when she did not issue the mayor’s permit several years ago for the power plant due to failure to show its contract with CAPELCO.
Engr. Edgar Diaz, general manager of CAPELCO, said that Enervantage, once closed, will affect the member-consumers since it still supplied some 20 percent of power in Capiz.
