Governor Exequiel B. Javier is not in any way affected by the reported alliance of his political opponents in the province.
Gov. Javier said that anyone can run for any position at stake in the next election, but it is always the people of Antique who will eventually decide who they want to lead them.
“Everybody can run and present themselves to the people. I welcome everyone to join the political arena. All I want is that we let the Antiqueños choose without force, without intimidation, and without resorting to illegal activities,” Javier said.
Gov. Javier said Antiqueños are now matured electorate.
“I know that our people now look at the track record of the candidates and their performance and most of all the Antiqueños now value the character of those who want to be their leaders,” he stressed.
He added, “I think the people of Antique will not vote for carpetbaggers. Our people will not vote for land-grabbers and plunderers. They will reject people who espouse illegal mining activities.”
Gov. Javier is confident that his performance, that of his son Congressman Paolo Javier and that of his party-mates are sufficient to convince the Antiqueños to continue to support them.
“The election is still more than a year away and many things could still happen. In the meantime, we rather focus on our development projects like the improvement of the hospitals in the province and the construction of more school buildings. These are our priorities and we don’t want politics to divert our attention at the moment. Let the other people talk about their politics while we do our job as incumbent officials of the province,” Javier said, adding that he hopes his political opponents would not resort to name-calling and the use of indecent language in their effort to become popular.
