Malacanang assured on Friday that the search and retrieval operations continue for the missing residents in the two landslide areas in Negros Oriental following the 6.9-magnitude earthquake that struck Central Visayas on February 6.
During the regular press briefing in Malacanang on Friday, Deputy Presidential Spokesperson Abigail Valte issued the statement in response to reports that the personnel from the government agencies and local government units involved in the search and retrieval for the missing residents would end their operations today.
“Ang team ng Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) ang nagtutuloy ng retrieval operations,” Valte said.
Officials of Guihulngan City have passed a resolution declaring the landslide area in Sitio Moog in Barangay Planas as a memorial site for residents buried there.
Barangays Planas and Solonggon in the neighboring town of La Libertad were the worst-hit by landslides following the earthquake.
Last February 8, President Benigno S. Aquino III said he wanted a new design and immediate reconstruction of vital infrastructure so that economic activity could start in disaster-affected areas.
