The Western Mindanao Command (Wesmincom) and Joint Special Operations Task Force-Philippines (JSOTF-P) in coordination with Tzu Chi Foundation have launched a four-day medical mission in this city.
Wesmincom spokesman Lt. Col. Randolph Cabangbang said the medical mission dubbed as “Operation Cataract” started Wednesday and is set to end on Saturday.
Cabangbang said it aims to give free cataract operation to identified indigent individuals from this city and nearby provinces.
Initially, Cabangbang said there are 25 identified beneficiaries from the municipalities of Sumisip and Ungkaya Pukan and Lamitan City, Basilan province.
The beneficiaries were identified and screened by the Basilan Integrated Provincial Health Office (IPHO), he said.
The cataract operation is being undertaken at the medical facility of Tzu Chi Foundation in this city.
The Tzu Chi Foundation is focused on medical support for indigent residents.
In partnership with the Zamboanga City Medical Center, the Tzu Chi (Great love) Eye Center offers cataract operations and eye consultation.
Indigent clients enjoy free services from the foundation while those who can afford can avail it at much lower rates compared to private hospitals.
