Millennium Challenge Account – Philippines (MCA-P) will bid out a contract for the rehabilitation of a 64.6 km road section in Samar under the Secondary National Roads Development Project (SNRDP) funded by Millennium Challenge Corp.
The road section starts at the San Julian/Sulat Municipal Boundary and ends at the Balangkayan/Llorente Municipal Boundary, in Eastern Samar. It is one of the four contract packages to be implemented in the 224-km road project.
The contract duration is 1,095 days with the anticipated commencement date of contract on August 15, 2012.
SNRDP is one of the three MCC-funded projects, with an allocation of US$ 214.4 million. It involves the construction/rehabilitation of existing roads and bridges that includes road widening, pavement strengthening, drainage improvement and traffic calming measures. The project will incorporate enhanced safety measures in the final road designs, including paved shoulders, sidewalks and curbs, and road marking.
The road project will pass through 15 municipalities and about 282,000 people are projected to benefit from it through reduced transportation costs and greater access to the communities’ needs. It is also expected to catalyze economic activity in Samar.
A pre-bid conference will be held on May 9. The deadline for the submission of bids is on June 15, at 10 am. Both the pre-bid conference and the submission of bids will be held at the MCA-P office at the 2nd floor of the Development Academy of the Philippine Building in San Miguel Avenue, Ortigas Center, Pasig City.
