Tree Planting in the Philippines

The Land Transportation and Franchising Regulatory Board (LTFRB) Regional Office 6, together with the transport sector in Iloilo city and the province, will hold a tree planting activity in support to the re-greening program of Gov. Arthur Defensor that targets to plant one million trees within the year.

LTFRB Regional Director Romulo Bernardes, together with the leaders of the transport sector, conveyed to Iloilo Gov. Defensor at the capitol Wednesday their support to his program.

Bernardes said about 100 to 200 public utility jeepney (PUJ) operators and drivers will participate in the tree planting activity on Nov. 12 in Janiuay town.

Taxi and bus operators and drivers will also join in the activity with each targets to plant 10 seedlings coming from the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR).

During the tree planting activity, the LTFRB will also launch the Decade of Action for Road Safety, which is a program of the United Nations aimed in stabilizing and reducing the global road deaths by 2020.

DA, DAR, DENR chooses Zambales as agricultural forestry pioneer

Department of Agriculture (DA), Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR), and Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) have chosen a 378.98 hectare agricultural forestry area in the municipality of Masinloc as their pioneer local convergence agro-enterprise cluster site in Zambales.

DAR Regional Support Services Division chief Eden Ponio disclosed that the convergence site covers three agrarian reform community barangays and one non-agrarian reform community barangays with a total of 383 farmer beneficiaries.

DENR will distribute seedlings of atis, guyabano, mango, cacao, rambutan, coffee arabica, and macadamia to the convergence grantees while DA will conduct capability building trainings on organic farming and give out vegetable seeds.

DAR, on the other hand, will hold lectures on a number of topics ranging from land tenure improvement to agrarian justice delivery.
