Top Filipino Nurses

Two graduates of the University of San Carlos (USC) in Cebu City were among the top 10 passers of the December 2011 Nursing Licensure Examinations, whose results were released Thursday.

Raymond Fabronero and Paul Gibson Reyes placed seventh, both getting a score of 84.60 percent. They shared the spot with seven other passers.

The Professional Regulatory Commission said 22,760 of the 67,095 who took the exams made it.

Jerald Pelayo of the Mountain View College topped the exam with a score of 86.40 percent, followed by Linsid Angelou Tapongot of Xavier University, 86 percent.

Joanne Santamaria of Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila ranked third with 85.80.

The Board of Nursing administered the exams in the cities of Manila, Baguio, Cagayan de Oro, Cebu, Dagupan, Davao, Iloilo, La Union, Legazpi, Lucena, Nueva Ecija, Pagadian, Pampanga, Tacloban, Tuguegarao and Zamboanga.

Antique, Philippines Hit by Tornado

A strong tornado reportedly hit the Central Philippines‘ Pandan town in northern Antique province.

Town mayor Jonathan Dioso said the tornado occurred from 5:30 to 6 p.m. Tuesday. The tornado reportedly started in nearby Cenro Norte Village running towards the central town.

“We are still assessing the damages brought by the tornado. Based on our initial report, Cenro Norte Village has been badly hit. We hope to provide data by tomorrow,” said Dioso.

In nearby Iloilo City, at least 32 passengers including a boat crew were rescued after their vessel was slammed and flooded by strong waves between Iloilo and Guimaras Island Tuesday morning.
