A legislator from Baguio has rated the State of the Nation Address (SONA) of President Benigno Aquino III as “excellent”.
Rep. Bernardo Vergara also said the multi-billion peso North Luzon Expressway which starts from southern Luzon and extends to Rosario, La Union shall become the flagship project in the area of the administration of President Aquino before his term ends in 2016.
“In two years or so, the Northern Luzon Expressway will have its gigantic effect to the further improvement of the already excellent industries in our localities. This will become one of the flagship projects of President Aquino. As to his SONA, I am one of those who rated it as excellent and comprehensive,” he said.
Vergara said that in the ensuing years, the Visayas group of islands will receive more infrastructure like airports and sea ports compared to Luzon because “the strategy would bring in more tourists in the area which are now popular worldwide for their developed tourism programs.”
He said that several areas in Luzon like Baguio have already had their share in infrastructure projects which are now very essential to the various industries, tourism and agriculture included.
“I agree that this government has already accomplished much in providing schools, equipment and books to our youths; the sustained modernization of the military; the increase of two million tourists to our usual tourist arrival of 1.5 million a year; and the ability of the government to sustain our needed power supply,” Vergara said.
The lawmaker added that with the President’s leadership, the so-called “RH Bill” or a law which will help couples pursue family planning as well as the increase of taxes on cigarettes and wines would be legislated in the near future.
