A retired teacher perished in a fire Tuesday dawn in her residence in New Lucena, Iloilo, the police said.
The 70-year-old victim, Petyronila Manzano, was trapped inside her two-storey residence about 2 a.m. Tuesday in Barangay Poblacion, New Lucena.
The town’s Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) said the fire might have been started by a lighted candle left unattended when a power outage hit the area.
The victim’s two elder sisters and an in-law was able to get out in time from the burning structure.
