A multi-million peso anti-flood project is set for completion in central Pangasinan in April.
This covers the construction of the protective slope and nine spur dikes of the Bued River in Barangay Binday here, worth P76 million.
The project is intended to protect San Fabian and Binday from erosion and flood during the rainy season.
Rep. Gina de Venecia (4th Dist. Pangasinan) has worked out the additional budget of P36 million for the project with the Department of Public Works and Highways.
De Venecia noted the old dike protecting Binday from the waters of the Bued River had been washed out during typhoon Pepeng in 2009.
The P36 million was in addition to the P40 million she poured into the project from her Priority Development Assistance Fund.
She said since the old dike was washed out, flood occurred yearly in Binday, already causing the devastation of over 50 hectares of agricultural lands in the village.
De Venecia considers the project, a protective slope and nine spur dikes, as the first line of defense of Binday against floods.
