Police operatives stopped the transport of at least 14,000 board feet of lumber loaded in two trucks during checkpoint operations along the national highway in Bacarra, Ilocos Norte on Tuesday.
Chief Inspector Dominic Guerrero, chief of police of Bacarra town, said on Wednesday that the confiscation of the lumber was made when the travel documents showed by the truck drivers were found fake.
Guerrero said the lumber was allegedly owned by one Mariano Cabanglang from Abulug, Cagayan and was set to be delivered to Vigan City.
According to Ilocos Norte Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Officer (PENRO) Juan delos Reyes, all the travel documents purportedly covering the lumber, like the transfer and transport documents, the certification signed by a professional forester and the certificates of timber forest products and ownership private land for transport, were all fakes due to the absence of dry seal.
