The National Food Authority (NFA) here Wednesday assured enough supply of rice even beyond the Christmas holidays with its more than 85,000 sacks as buffer supply in their warehouses in Baguio and Benguet province.
Concepcion Evangelista of NFA Baguio-Benguet said “aside from being enough, we also have good quality of rice supply which were purchased from our local farmers.”
She said that despite of the recent destructive typhoons like “Mina”, the farmers in Luzon were still able to have a good production this year that the NFA was able to pursue its domestic rice procurement program.
Over the years, the NFA has adequately serve the people, especially the low-income groups of cheap but good quality rice.
With the government’s successful rice production program, local rice farmers have helped in the goal of achieving a high degree of rice self sufficiency and only a small percentage of the needed rice consumption in the Philippines are imported from abroad.
