Aside from spearheading fund and relief goods donation drive, the Butuan City government headed by City Mayor Dr. Ferdinand Amante Jr. send on Monday a search and rescue team to help their counterparts in the calamity-stricken cities of Cagayan de Oro and Iligan, both in Northern Mindanao which was recently ravaged by tropical storm Sendong.
Butuan City has a highly-trained search and rescue team called BUSART or the Butuan Search and Rescue Team
Apart from the search and rescue team, the Butuan City government also sent rehabilitation team composed of public and private organizations to help local counterparts in rehabilitating areas in Cagayan de Oro and Iligan cities ravaged by flashfloods.
“Both teams will stay there as long as they are needed,” Mayor Amante told the PNA at the Butuan City Hall conference room.
Amante said the Gawad Kalinga Butuan team is already in Iligan City to help build houses ravaged by flooding.
Amante assessed it could take for both cities one month to rehabilitate affected areas.
